Being Successful and Staying Humble

Recently, I came across this article in the Tampa Bay Times that gave me a renewed perception of what it will take for my blogging website to be successful.

Jeff Haden, a ghostwriter, speaker and the author of “The Motivation Myth: How High Achievers Really Set Themselves Up to Win.”

Here are some of his key points to being successful:

  • Successful People tend to do awesome things you don’t know about because they just do them and don’t brag about them.
  • Successful People don’t think work-life balance, they just think life. You are your business and your business is your life. There is no separation of work-life because all these things make you who you are.
  • Successful People do nice things because they can. It’s in their nature to do nice things for people not because they have to but because they want to.
  • Successful People find great happiness in the success of other people. The enjoy personal achievements but really enjoy seeing other people succeed.
  • Successful People see money not just as reward but also as a responsibility. They see money not just as a reward but as a way to grow their business, to reward and develop their employees, to give back to the community and to help others.
  • Successful People are humble and don’t think they’re cool. They don’t blow their own horn. They know their success is based on hard work, persistence and execution.

My story of creating my own business is only in it’s infant stages, but for 44-year-old CEO and
Founder Bobby Harris of BlueGrace Logistics, his dream began in 2009. The Riverview, FL based company started with eight employees and has grown to around 600 in just 10 short years. The privately held company is a logistics company that helps companies move freight with freight carriers.  Revenue last year was $338 million and this year they are budgeted for $504 million.

Starting a company from the ground up is no easy task, but Bobby Harris has developed his core values for the company by listening to what his employees want, letting them know you care, assist them in hitting their goals and “live” those core values. His goal is to build a multi-billion-dollar a year company with 3,000 employees by the year 2022.

Here’s to Bobby Harris for staying humble and much great success in reaching his goals.
